Internal Medicine Physicians (or Doctors of Internal Medicine) focus their treatment on adult diseases, and also do not treat specific women's conditions (such as in gynecology or obstetrics).

Internal medicine physicians may practice general internal medicine, however many often go on to subspecialize in a variety of different medical areas. Internal medicine physicians are often called in as consultants to other physicians when diagnosis are uncertain or difficult to obtain.
